Doodle for Google Success!

We are proud to announce that three of our pupils have reached the National Finals of the Doodle for Google Art Competition. They are: Lucy Loughran, 5th Class, Caoimhe Treanor, 2nd Class and Natalia Gancarz, also 2nd Class. Congratulations are due as well to Lena Kowalska 6th Class who reached the Regional Semi-Finals stage of the competition.

The girls had to create a design around the Google logo on the theme of “I wish.” Together with their parents and teachers, the three finalists have been invited to a special award ceremony to be held in the Google Headquarters in Dublin in March.

Class group winners have yet to be selected and this is open to a Public Vote. You can support the three girls by logging on to www.google.ie/doodle4google and selecting the Public Vote link.

Well done girls and good luck in the voting stage!

Pictured left are all the girls who won prizes in the Parents’ Association Sponsored Walk Colouring Competition, which was held before Christmas. There were three winners in every class.

The Sponsored Walk took place on Sunday 22nd January and was a great success as usual. See our Parents’ Association page for photos of this event.

santa's visit

posted on Thursday 22nd December, 2011

The jolly "man in red" paid his annual visit to St. Louis on the morning of the Christmas holidays. As usual the girls were thrilled to see Santa, who gave them all a goodie bag each. They entertained him with Christmas carols and songs and he took to the floor for his traditional dance with the teachers!!

school choirs

posted on Friday 16th December, 2011

Following their successful performance at the "Big Switch On" on Sunday, November 20th, our fifth class choir embarked on another fest of carol singing, this time in aid of the local St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. The girls and their teachers congregated at the entrance to Flemings Supervalu on Friday last, December16th, and were warmly received by Christmas shoppers who passed by. Many stopped to enjoy the singing and were most generous in their contributions to this worthy cause.
The sixth class choir travelled to Dublin to the RDS on Saturday 10th December to take part in the Hallelujah Children's Concert. The girls were accompanied by Mrs. McGeown, Sr. Maire and Mrs. Rooney. As is evident from the pictures, a great day was had by all!!

school secretary retires

posted on Thursday 24th November, 2011

Our school secretary, Mrs. Mary Lyons, has retired after 33 years of sterling service. Mary was held in the highest esteem by all who knew and worked with her. As a testimony to this, our school hall was packed on Thursday 24th of November for a farewell mass celebrated by our school chaplain, Fr. Paddy McGinn. The children offered prayers for Mary and her family and sang their hearts out as a tribute to her.

The staff and pupils were joined by a large number of invited guests including Mary's family and close relatives, members of the Board of Management and the Parents' Association, present and former members of the staff of St. Louis Infant School and former members of our own teaching staff. Mary was initially employed as a shared secretary between both Louis Schools and worked for a total of six different principals, five of whom were present on the day: Sr. Josefina, Mrs. McTiernan, Sr. Maura, Mrs. Holden and Mrs. Rooney.

Glowing tributes were paid and presentations made to Mary by Mr. Packie McAdam on behalf of the B.O.M., Mr. Aidan Deighan on behalf of the Parents' Association, Mrs. McTiernan on behalf of the Infants School and by Mrs. Rooney on behalf of our own teaching staff. Mary's great kindness, warmth and legendary sense of humour will be greatly missed by all in St. Louis G.N.S. but we hope she will continue to be a frequent visitor to our school. Ní bheidh a léitheid arís ann!
