School Secretary retires

Our school secretary, Mrs. Mary Lyons, has retired after 33 years of sterling service. Mary was held in the highest esteem by all who knew and worked with her. As a testimony to this, our school hall was packed on Thursday 24th of November for a farewell mass celebrated by our school chaplain, Fr. Paddy McGinn. The children offered prayers for Mary and her family and sang their hearts out as a tribute to her.

The staff and pupils were joined by a large number of invited guests including Mary's family and close relatives, members of the Board of Management and the Parents' Association, present and former members of the staff of St. Louis Infant School and former members of our own teaching staff. Mary was initially employed as a shared secretary between both Louis Schools and worked for a total of six different principals, five of whom were present on the day: Sr. Josefina, Mrs. McTiernan, Sr. Maura, Mrs. Holden and Mrs. Rooney.

Glowing tributes were paid and presentations made to Mary by Mr. Packie McAdam on behalf of the B.O.M., Mr. Aidan Deighan on behalf of the Parents' Association, Mrs. McTiernan on behalf of the Infants School and by Mrs. Rooney on behalf of our own teaching staff. Mary's great kindness, warmth and legendary sense of humour will be greatly missed by all in St. Louis G.N.S. but we hope she will continue to be a frequent visitor to our school. Ní bheidh a léitheid arís ann!
